Gardeners defied unpredictable growing conditions to produce an impressive turnout of entries at this year’s Ilkley Flower Show.

The 59th annual event took place on Saturday at the Clarke Foley Centre in Cunliffe Road, now well-established as the show’s venue.

The event featured classes for flowers, vegetables, fruit, floral art, home craft and photography, with a variety of children’s sections as well.

The show was formally opened by Ilkley parish councillor, Brian Mann, and trophies were presented by Ilkley Parish Council chairman, Councillor Heathcliffe Bowen.

Councillor Mann said: “We had a good attendance, with more exhibitors this year than we’ve had in the past, and there was a very good atmosphere in the Clarke Foley Centre.”

Cash prizes were on offer to class winners, as well as cups and trophies. The traditional auction of produce and entries took place at the end of the show.

The event is promoted as part of Ilkley Summer Festival this month. It is financed by local sponsors and a special fundraising coffee morn-ing each spring.

The organisers thank individuals and businesses who donated special prizes and who supported the show by advertising in the schedule.
