Time is running out for chance to Race For Life
Women across the district are being urged to grab their last chance to enter Cancer Research UK’s Race For Life.
More than 2,600 women have signed up to the women-only 5k events in East Holmes Field, Ilkley, on Sunday, June 10, and at Lister Park in Bradford on Sunday, June 17, but more are needed.
Entry closes at midnight on June 7 for Ilkley and on June 14 for Bradford.
In 2011, 4,700 women took part in the Bradford and Ilkley events, helping to raise £201,000 for Cancer Research UK.
Jenny Key, event manager for Race for Life in Yorkshire, said: “We are thrilled that so many women have entered, they will help us create a fantastic atmosphere on the day and raise crucial funds.
“But we don’t want anyone to miss out. We still have places left for the two events so we are reminding women who want to take part at this venue that they must enter as soon as possible.
“The battle against cancer never stops so we need you to sign up now and start raising money.
“Women of all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes take part in Race For Life. They motivate and inspire each other to complete the course.”
Women can boost their contribution to Cancer Research UK’s work by doing a ‘wardrobe work-out’ before their event. The charity is encouraging them to sort out and bag up hidden treasures such as clothes, books and accessories they no longer use and take them to the Donation Station at Race For Life. Each bag of goods could help raise as much as an extra £30.
Every contribution helps and women travelling to Race for Life by public transport could still bring a book or scarf or an old handbag filled with accessories to help Cancer Research UK stock their local store.
Cancer Research UK receives no Government funding, so money raised through Race for Life is crucial.
