An innovative eco-friendly home has put an Ilkley architects’ firm on the shortlist for a design award.
Sense of Space’s design for an eco-friendly house, Apple Hayes, is being considered in the Best Eco Build and Best Luxury New Build categories in the Northern Design Awards 2011.
The five-bedroom detached house, on Ben Rhydding Drive, won an Ilkley Civic Society design award earlier this year.
Apple Hayes was also shortlisted for a RIBA Regional Award, the precursor for the leading prize in architecture, the Stirling Prize.
The new-build house was designed to achieve a high level of performance in terms of its energy usage and approach to sustainability.
The winners of the Northern Design Awards will be announced at a gala dinner and ceremony this month, hosted by TV presenter and architect George Clarke, best-known for his Channel 4 programme, Restoration Man.
The panel of judges for the awards consists of a number of household names from the design industry, including Sir Terence Conran, Wayne Hemingway and Diarmuid Gavin.
Sense of Space managing director, Richard Addenbrook, said: “We are honoured to have been considered for these awards and given the fact we have been shortlisted in two categories, we are hopeful of some success, even though the competition is strong and the judges, in particular, are very demanding.”
