Ben Rhydding 7 Chester 1

Ben Rhydding extended their 100 per cent North Premier League record with an emphatic win over lowly Chester on Saturday.

The league leaders made a slow start and the sides appeared to be evenly matched in the opening stages.

However, once the home side got into their stride it didn’t take long before they finally opened the scoring.

A well-worked move into the attacking D was finished off by Eleanor Trafford.

Ben Rhydding continued to improve and some excellent quick movement and passing left Chester with few opportunities of gaining back possession for most of the first half.

By half-time the home side were 4-0 up thanks to three further goals from Sarah Clarke, Jess Purvis and Rachelle Le Bourdon. Ben Rhydding did not let up in the second half and added a fifth goal ten minutes in after the ball was played quickly out of defence by Sophie Atkinson, through midfield and down the left flank to Jess Purvis.

Jo Ellis was waiting in front of goal to finish off flowing move by slotting the ball past the outstretched Chester keeper.

A few minutes later and Rachel Doherty added a sixth goal from a long ball down the middle of the pitch by player of the match Rachelle le Bourdon.

The dominance of the home team was broken when they were caught napping as Chester scored a surprise goal from a quick attack down the left.

Ben Rhydding were stung and hit back immediately as Jo dribbled the ball from the centre spot, dodged round two defenders, and at the edge of the D slipped past another before setting up Trafford for her second goal.

It crowned a fine display.
