Sold out – that is the phrase normally associated with Ilkley Beer Festival.

When tickets go on sale in December, there is a scramble for evening sessions, with most disappearing as fast as a pint of Mary Jane.

This year there were even reports of queues outside pubs as eager ale fans waited to buy tickets from the bar.

But it will come as no surprise that behind the beer barrels, there is a serious side to the annual event.

Now in its fourth year, the festival is set to raise £30,000 for good causes in just two days. And organisers, Ilkley and District Round Table, are urging local charities and community groups to apply for the cash.
