A charity ball organised as a joint effort by five cousins raised more than £7,000 for three good causes.

Cousins Kathryn Heseltine, of Bolton Abbey, Marie Woodhouse, of Skipton, Rebecca Procter, of Cross Hills, Rachael Wilson, of Cowling, and Ilkley’s Julie Tales, threw the ball at the Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton last month.

More than 200 people attended the ball, buying tickets for a raffle and bidding in a fundraising auction.

The grand total raised was £7,457, and almost £2,500 is being given to each of three charities. The charities which will benefit are Airedale and Wharfedale Autism Support Group (Aware), Annette Fox Leukaemia Research Fund, at Bradford Royal Infirmary, and Sue Ryder Care Manorlands Hospice, at Oxenhope, near Keighley.

The cousins drummed up support for the event by word of mouth, social networking website Facebook, and via various charity communication channels.

Many shops and other businesses sponsored the raffle on the night. Auction lots included a one-off hosted day out to Silverstone, hotel accommodation in Skipton and Harrogate, and a signed book by Damon Hill.
