Three objections have been made to an application to renew planning permission for a motel in Addingham.

Opaltex Pension Fund has applied to Bradford Council to renew permission for a 30-bedroom motel on the former Dickenson’s Garage site, off Main Street.

Revised plans for the motel were approved by the council in 2005, but the plot has remained undeveloped. The site lies close to the village cricket club.

Addingham residents have written to Bradford Council objecting to the plans. One objector labelled the development unnecessary, claiming it would further destroy a beautiful valley and could lead to more development.

Another villager said the motel would make the eastern approach to Addingham look urban.

A third objector was not against the principle of building a motel, welcoming sustainable local employment, but said there were too many rooms, and said Main Street already had enough traffic.

The previously agreed plan included 28 ensuite double rooms, two ensuite family rooms, a reception, bar, restaurant and kitchens.
