A couple who first met in Lancashire holiday resort Morecambe have toasted 60 years of married life.

May and Geof Ridley, of Ghyll Mews, Ilkley, celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary with their family last Thursday, going out for a meal on the day, then spending the weekend at Ullswater in the Lake District.

There was further celebration on Monday when Mrs Ridley celebrated her 82nd birthday.

Mr and Mrs Ridley have lived in Ilkley for 19 years, moving to the area after they retired to live closer to their daughter.

They also have two granddaughters.

Mrs Ridley, a member of the Women's Guild at Sacred Heart Church in Ilkley, used to work as a school secretary, while Mr Ridley, now 87, worked as an export credit controller.

The couple first met in Morecombe, where Geof lived, when May visited the town on a holiday. They were married in her home town of Preston in 1950.
