ILKLEY Grammer School students went for the red carpet treatment on Friday night at the annual school May Ball.

More than 230 Year 11 students, who will be sitting their GCSEs this year, dressed up and arrived in style at the Craiglands Hotel in the town for the glittering night out.

The girls were out in their finest stunning evening dresses, while the boys swapped school uniform for smart dinner jackets and bow ties.

Many of the guests put some thought into making a grand entrance at the hotel across the road from their school on Cowpasture Road.

Some arrived in stretch limousines, while the longstanding tradition of finding novel modes of transport for getting to the ball was upheld, with some of the guests arriving aboard a fire engine.

Entertainment on the night was provided by a DJ, and local band Five Dollar Shoes.
