Fourteen gymnasts from Ilkley Gym Club made an impressive debut at the City of Leeds GymFest.

Groups travelled from as far as London, Ireland and Scotland to take part in the display, which was held at Dewsbury Sports Centre.

The Ilkley girls performed a two-and-a- half-minute group routine of gymnastic and acrobatic elements at the event, watched by a 500-strong crowd.

A display on this scale is quite a feat, even for the most experienced of gymnasts; yet this was the first time the club, or any of the girls, had participated in such an event, or for that matter anything at all outside of their own club.

The girls were immaculately turned out in their matching club leotards, and really looked the part in every way.

The gymnasts confidently took command of the floor and gave a polished, competent presentation. The dramatic routine was even given the seal of approval from the event organisers, who highly commended Ilkley Gym Club’s choreography during the concluding ceremony.

Ilkley Gym Club coach Jennifer Robinson said: “We’re incredibly proud of each and every one of the gymnasts. We really couldn’t have asked for any more, and are so pleased that the girls enjoyed it after all of the hard work that they put into it.

“Thanks again to family and friends who joined us for their cheering and support! It really was a great day.”

The girls, aged between eight and 16, train at Ilkley Gym Club – a long-standing club based at the town’s Grammar School.
