Ilkley medical centre holds health awareness day

PATIENTS and carers will be able to get guidance and advice on many conditions and medical services at a health awareness event in Ilkley on Thursday.

The Patient Council of Ilkley Moor Medical Practice and the practice itself will bring experts and representatives of various services and organisations to the Big Open Day at the King’s Hall, offering an opportunity for patients to discuss health and health-related issues.

The event is open from 10am to 4pm.

The advice will be free to all visitors, not only those who are among the 12,000 registered patients of the Ilkley Moor Practice. Clinical staff from the practice, based at the Springs Medical Centre, Springs Lane, will also offering simple health checks to people on the day.

A similar event was held by the practice and its patient council at Christchurch last September.

Experts on a variety of issues, including diabetes, mental health, self help and Parkinson’s Disease will be at the awareness event, and information will also be available on nutrition, cancer care, meals on wheels, the Carers Resource and other issues.

A benefits officer is also expected at the event, offering advice on the benefits which carers and those living with serious conditions can claim.

Representatives of social services, charity Marie Curie Cancer Care, Ilkley business The Green Health Shop, Age Concern, Ilkley organisation Good Neighbours, the LS29 Group and Moor Mums are also expected to attend.
