Ilkley Guide chosen to go on Lapland trip

Fifteen-year-old Naomi Warrenberg, of the 1st Ilkley Guide Unit, is one of only 14 girls chosen to represent Girlguiding UK on a special centenary trip to Lapland.

It will take place during the Easter holidays in 2010, the year when girls all over the world will celebrate 100 years of guiding.

Naomi said: “I will gain new experi-ences and friends and hope to find out about a foreign country which is different from everything I have ever experienced.

“I will be given the opportunity to learn about Lapp culture and to handle huskies on a reindeer safari. This will be my first visit abroad without my parents so I will gain independence in the company of girls my own age.’ Naomi has to raise £1,500 and plans to do odd jobs for neighbours and wash cars. She also hopes to get a part-time job to enable her to go on the adventure.

Thermal clothing will be provided but all other special requirements will have to be funded by the Skipton High School student.

She said she was very excited about the trip and hoped to see the Northern Lights.
