Sisters prepare for a family fund-raising challenge

Four sisters are training hard to tackle the Great North Run half-marathon in a joint fundraising effort for an Alzheimer’s disease charity.

Di Cooke, Pam Hulmes, Sheila Mason and Andrea Brown, neé Dixon, set out to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society after their mother, 87, was diagnosed with the condition.

Di’s son, Christian, is an actor, most recently starring in prime-time ITV supernatural drama Demons.

The sisters grew up in Leeds, but three of them moved north west of the city.

Di, 52, lives in Menston, Sheila, 55, lives in Rawdon, and Andrea, 55, lives in Horsforth, while Pam, 59, lives in Spain, and will do most of her training for the run in hot and sunny conditions.

The run itself, however, will take place in what is likely to be a much cooler environment in September.

The Great North Run takes thousands of runners from Newcastle, across the landmark Tyne Bridge, to South Shields on the north east coast.

All four sisters got together for a training session when Pam paid a visit to Yorkshire in June.

Anyone who would like the sponsor the sisters is asked to visit their web page at justgiving.com/dixonsisters.
