A DAY of zoo-inspired fun is coming to Guiseley.

Codswallop CIC says its Zoo Day will bring an ‘immersive theatre spectacle’ to the town on Saturday, September 1.

The event will feature live puppetry, in-role actors from Codswallop’s very own Spotty Socks Theatre Company, workshops, crafts and a community cafe - and is open to all on a ‘pay what you can’ donation basis.

The ‘zoo’ itself will take place on Springfield Park - behind Aireborough Leisure Centre - from 11am to 2pm while a cafe, crafts and facilities will also be available at Guiseley Theatre throughout.

Two workshops for eight to 16 year olds (or younger children accompanied by adults), meanwhile, will show participants how to make life-size puppets or the skills required for becoming a master puppeteer.

Visitors are encouraged to dress up for the day - and young people are invited to come dressed as explorers ready for their adventures.

Voluntary Director of Codswallop CIC, Lucy Phillips, said: “We are so excited to be bringing a disused space to life in such an exciting way!

“All the puppets were made right here in Guiseley by our Codswallop artists and young people from the National Citizens Service, and all of our actors are from the local area.

“We are 100 per cent about supporting and investing in the talent on our doorstep.”

The Zoo Day is being supported by Leeds City Council’s Outer North West Committees Youth Activities Fund and is a part of the organisation’s Splaturdays and Day in the Woods activity programmes.
