A CELEBRITY antiques expert has helped open a retirement homes complex in Ilkley.

David Harper, who stars on the BBC's Bargain Hunt and Cash In The Attic shows, cut the ceremonial ribbon at Chesterton Court last week.

McCarthy and Stone's new Retirement Living Plus scheme, on Railway Road, consists of 58 one and two bedroom apartments.

After declaring the development open Mr Harper gave a talk during which he shared some tips on antique-hunting and stories about his career.

Guests were also given a guided tour of Chesterton Court's show complex while enjoying light refreshments.

Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone North East, Liz Green, said: "We are all incredibly proud of the outstanding design and build quality of Chesterton Court and it was our pleasure to showcase the development with such an enjoyable event.

"The opening was well attended and everyone had a great time raising a glass to commemorate this important milestone.

"It was great to see local retirees from the area taking a look around the development."

Retirement Living Plus developments are designed to offer homeowners independent living within a safe environment, with opportunities to enjoy companionship and take part in social activities on site.

Chesterton Court's apartments have been designed for people aged 70 and over - with staff on site 24 hours a day - and include open plan living and dining areas plus fully fitted kitchens.

The complex also has communal spaces including a homeowners’ lounge and landscaped gardens, and a bistro style restaurant.

Local residents are being invited to visit between 11am and 3pm on Saturday, August 18 or Saturday, August 25 to look around and find out more.
