BOTH Guiseley sides, who were a mixture of first-teamers and Academy players, tasted defeat for the first time this season in a double dose of Saturday afternoon action.

Vanarama National League side Gateshead triumphed 2-1 at Nethermoor, while Northern League West Auckland won by the only goal of the game at Durham Road.

Rowan Liburd scored for the second successive weekend to put the Lions ahead early in the second half but the Heed were level shortly after when Jo Green hauled down Steven Rigg.

Although keeper Green dived to his right to palm away the resulting spot-kick, Lewis Maloney was on hand to tuck away the rebound for the part-timers.

Green was again at full stretch to save Luke Armstrong's initial effort but the Gateshead front man found space to place a shot into the opposite corner and put his side ahead.

Despite some intensive pressure on the visitors' goal late on, the home side were unable to craft a leveller and the focus now turns to home games against Bolton Wanderers tomorrow and Leeds United on Thursday.

Mark Doninger got the West Auckland goal.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that winger Lee Molyneux has left the Lions to join National League side Barrow where he joins up with former Lions John Rooney, Connor Brown and Raul Correia.

Molyneux joined Guiseley at the start of last season but was loaned out to Chorley for the latter part of the campaign.
