AN OPEN garden event will raise money for the new Scout and Guide headquarters in Burley-in-Wharfedale.

On Sunday, June 24, Sue and Gordon Vint will open their garden at 19, Menston Old Lane from 1pm to 5pm and everyone is welcome.

The garden is a delight for plant lovers with borders of unusual perennials and shrubs, and many unusual features. There is a wildlife pond and a natural stream that runs the full length of the garden. Admission is £3 and under 16s are free. There will be tea and home-made cakes, plus the popular plant stall.

Younger children can take part in the garden quiz set by the Guides. The money raised will be for the new Burley Scout and Guide headquarters appeal.

Sue, who is also a Guide Leader in Burley, said: "This will be our ninth open garden. We have been asked so many times if we will open the garden again that we decided we didn't want to disappoint people. They love coming and we have our regular visitors. Its a fabulous event and everyone is welcome! Burley Guides will be on hand to help serve teas and serve on the stalls."

Sue added: "We are still raising money for our new Scout and Guide headquarters in Peel Place, Burley, so the proceeds from the afternoon will be for the Hut Appeal. The shell of the HQ is finished and it looks amazing. We still have to fit out the inside and make changes to the grounds. We have raised over £300,000 but we are still £100,000 short, so we are still working hard at fundraising. Gordon and I look forward to welcoming all to our garden."
