RETIREMENT housebuilder McCarthy and Stone is in the early stages of exploring the possibility of a development in Burley-in-Wharfdale.

A spokesman for the company said: "In the first step today we have invited members of the local community to let us know the issues we need to take into account in drawing up our plans. We are committed to a full and open consultation with local residents. Should the scheme move forward, we will be holding a public exhibition to allow residents to give us their views.”

The company's is proposing to build retirement apartments, family homes, affordable housing and to create public open space on a proportion of land between A65 and Main Street in Burley.

Anyone interested in more information about the proposed development is invited to attend an information session and design workshop in the Queens Hall, Main Street between 12.30pm and 6pm on Thursday, May 24.
