AN OTLEY woman has become the third fastest in the world to complete a 'marathon' on an indoor rowing machine.

Jane Chadwick completed the 42,195 metre challenge at Otley gym Club Energy on Monday, May 21 in three hours, 19 minutes.

Mrs Chadwick, who was supported by friends and family, did the row to raise money for the Broken Body of Water challenge - a three lakes initiative set up by British Canoeing.

The challenge will see Andrew Sutton, from Grantham - who has family in Otley and attended the Club Energy event - attempt to become first paraplegic kayaker to paddle the three largest lakes in England, Scotland and Wales.

Mr Sutton, who has a rare, inoperable spinal tumour, will start the challenge in Scotland on Saturday, June 16 and aims to complete all the lakes in 48 hours.

Mrs Chadwick, a friend of the family's, began her epic indoor row just after 3pm on the day and surprised herself with her quick finish time.

She only took up indoor rowing in January but by April had already achieved a second place finish in the JustRow competition in Manchester.

Mr Sutton's daughter, Lorna Norton, said: "A massive well done to Jane and a thank you from the whole team at Broken Body of Water."

Donations were taken on the day from well wishers at Club Energy.

Mr Sutton's challenge, meanwhile - which includes raising money for the Queens Medical Centre Hospital and making a film - can be supported at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/broken-body-of-water .
