A RACEHORSE named after a stablehand from Otley is expected to make her competitive debut next week.

Pam's Angel, as reported in our last edition, was originally due to run in the 2.20pm at Nottingham on Tuesday, May 22.

There was a change of plan, however, after it was decided jockey Gerald Mossé, a French champion, and the horse needed a little more time together.

Instead, the team behind Pam's Angel are now hoping she will have her first race at Doncaster on Friday, June 1.

The horse was named after stablehand, registered trainer and owner Pam Winterburn who died on July 21, 2014, amidst claims of workplace bullying.

An inquest concluded that Pam, who was 44, had taken her life near her home in Soham, Cambridgeshire after being treated by various employers with a 'lack of compassion'.

Pam's mother, retired Otley health worker Lyn Marshall, has been campaigning to fight bullying within horse racing ever since.

Lyn co-owns Pam's Angel and, along with her trainer Mohamed Moubarak, hopes the horse will help publicise the issue and lead to change.
