PRACTICAL way of helping refugees will be discussed at an event in Horsforth this week.

The World on our Doorstep will take place at St Margaret’s Church, from 5pm to 8pm on Friday, April 27. The event, hosted by City of Sanctuary with Horsforth Churches, will offer family fun activities, a meal prepared by refugees and an interactive children’s workshop. The session aims to get everyone thinking about how practically to welcome refugees. Visit www.hopeinhorsforth.co.uk for free tickets.

One of the organisers, Duncan Stow, said: “We are delighted that we hope to have 40 refugees and asylum seekers with us on the evening.”

Friday’s event is building on the success of last year’s mock refugee camp in the town.

People taking part will have the chance to make friends with families who are refugees and asylum seekers and to hear their stories. Activities will include a treasure trail to discover the journey of a refugee, a bouncy castle and parachute games.
