THE official Ilkley flag for this year’s Tour de Yorkshire will be raised at a ceremony in Ilkley today.

Pupils from Ilkley Grammar who are all keen cyclists will be taking part in the event, as well as local people and businesses.

The flag was presented to representatives from Bradford Council by Welcome to Yorkshire to help celebrate the race coming to the district on May 4 and 6.

Stage 2 of this year’s Tour de Yorkshire will have a summit finish at the Cow and Calf Rocks in Ilkley on Friday, May 4. The town will also see the women’s race finish in the same place on the same day.

Stage 4 will be going through Oxenhope, Haworth, Oakworth and Laycock with a ‘King of the Mountains’ section at Goose Eye on Sunday 6 May.

The flag raising ceremony takes place today, Thursday, April 19 , at 1pm at the flag pole at the junction of Brook Street and The Grove in Ilkley town centre.
