A NEW head teacher has been appointed to lead independent Ilkley school Westville House.

Mrs Nicola Hammond, former director of teaching and learning at Westville, has taken over the role following the departure of former head Ian Shuttleworth, who had been in position since September 2015.

Mrs Hammond has a wealth of experience across the primary education sector and brings a passion to ensure that every child receives exceptional education.

Focussing on the future Mrs Hammond said: “I am delighted to take up the position of Head at this wonderful school. I am looking forward to ensuring that all the traditional values of a Westville education are upheld and that every child can enjoy an outstanding all-round education. The summer term is full of exciting opportunities and the whole staff team will enjoy sharing these with the children.”

As well as the appointment of a new head the school in Carter's Lane is celebrating outstanding senior school entry results. Many have gained academic scholarships, and all have gained places at their school of choice.

Mr Adam Holdsworth, who took over as the chairman of Governors earlier this year said: “Westville House has always had a strong academic focus and we are delighted once again to have children who have produced outstanding results.

"Our congratulations go to all the children, and to the staff team for their immense hard work. As a Board of Governors, we always look to deliver the very best educational experience and facilities for every child. Indeed, this starts from our new woodland pre-school with children as young as two years beginning their educational journey and continues right through to successful senior school entry.”

Westville House is hosting a 'Fun on the Farm' Spring Open Morning on Saturday, April 21 from 9.30am to noon. Everyone is welcome to attend the event where there will be animals to feed, quizzes to answer and a straw maze to enjoy.
