Addingham Allotments and Gardens' Association 38th Spring Show is well supported

A spokesperson for the Association said: "Entries, excluding those for the children’s classes, were 20 per cent higher than last year. This was very pleasing and quite surprising considering the cold wet weather of recent weeks, which had made it difficult to prepare and produce good quality floral entries. When the staging was complete in the hall we saw a host of golden daffodils looking wonderful and releasing a heady perfume. Entries in the house plant and primula classes were also particularly numerous this year.

"There were, however, only three entries in the tulip classes, which was not surprising considering the late arrival of spring this year. "There were also fewer entries than usual in the floral art and photography classes.

"Thanks are due to the Association’s committee, friends, exhibitors and the judges who collectively made the show a success.

"Special mention should be made to Janet Acomb who won prizes in the Flowers, Floral Art and Art classes and Robert Appleyard who won prizes in the Flowers and Baking classes."

Jeff Walbank was the winner of the trophy for the best exhibit in the show with his superb primula in a pot. The Low Mill Cup for the best exhibit in class 1, one vase of 10 cut mixed Daffodils, was awarded to Ramon Porter while the trophy for the best orchid in the show was won by C Collins. Conner Douglas was the winner of the trophy for the best entry in the children’s classes.

The Association’s next show will be the Annual Show, which will be held on Saturday, August 11. Details of the classes and the arrangements for entering exhibits will be published shortly in the show schedule and on the Association’s website http://addinghamaga.org.uk/.
