WOMEN campaigning for justice over the pension age met Ilkley's MP John Grogan

to discuss their concerns.

Mr Grogan held a meeting at the civic centre in Keighley on Saturday to talk about the the financial and emotional impact caused by the acceleration of the State Pension Age for women born in the 1950s.

The MP said 4200 women in the Keighley and Ilkley Constituency had been affected by the Act of Parliament in 2011, which raised the age at which they could claim their pension.

He added: "They were given very little notice of this change and had no time to adjust their saving plans. The All Party Parliamentary Group of which I am a member will soon be producing a report detailing options about how these women might be compensated . "Ilkley and District WASPI (Women against state pension inequality) have now agreed to become Airedale and Wharfedale WASPI so that they can cover a wider area. If any women who have been affected by the change contact my office I will put them in contact with the group."

Ilkley WASPI campaigner Heather Duke said: "Mr Grogan is very supportive and keen to have a successful outcome for 1950s women many of whom are facing financial hardship."

She added: "I have been working together with other WASPI women for over two years to lobby the government and also to make women within our age group aware of the fight to achieve justice and a fair solution."

A second meeting is to be organised after the publication of the report on April 25, which will be based on the findings of a survey to a large number of groups throughout the country who are campaigning to achieve redress. The meeting will be open to women who have been affected by the acceleration of state pension age.
