RAIL services running through Guiseley station are expected to face cancellations and delays all day after a landslip this morning.

Northern said the direct line from Ilkley to Leeds was left blocked by a tree after a "significant" landslip occurred between Guiseley and Kirkstall Forge last night. Network Rail was working to clear the line.

A spokesman said: "A significant landslip has occurred between Guiseley and Kirkstall Forge. This landslip occurred near the railway and moved a tree so that it has become unstable.

"Network Rail are on site now working to clear the tree from the line and ensure that it is safe for trains to run through, and as a result the direct line from Ilkley ot Leeds is blocked.

"Network Rail specialist staff have been closely monitoring the affected site and have now advised that for safety reasons electric trains will not be able to run between Ilkley and Bradford Forster Square in both directions. Cancellations and alterations will occur as diesel trains are put in place of electric trains."

Between 7am and 9am there were only two direct trains from Ilkley to Leeds - at 7.37am and 8.16am, with both diverted via Shipley.
