BITE My Thumb will present their upcoming tour of two of John Godber’s two best loved plays, Bouncers and Shakers in Ilkley and Bramhope.

Bouncers is John Godber’s most famous and loved play. Four talented actors portray dozens of different characters on a typical Northern night out to an electric 80s soundtrack.

Shakers gives a wickedly funny glimpse of the world as seen through the eyes of the four long suffering waitresses, offering a fascinating view of the reality that lurks behind the plastic palms and the Pina Coladas. John Godber's sparkling writing builds on the success of his earlier 'Bouncers' to create a richly absorbing yet tellingly revealing modern comedy.

"It’s so great to be back doing Godber,” said director Neil Knipe. “The audiences love him and his work so much. Bouncers is actually the play that everyone asks us to do again - even though we’ve produced it twice before.”

Despite having put on both Bouncers and Shakers before, Bite My Thumb aren’t resting on their laurels. “When you return to a piece the challenge is always to out do yourself. That’s what we intend to do. We have ensured that whether you’ve seen our Bouncers and Shakers before, or anyone else’s, there’s plenty of surprises in there so it feels fresh and new," added Neil.

"They’ll be great nights, the shows bring the house down. The usual comment we get is - you made my jaw ache with laughter.”

I would also seem that this production of Shakers is a little bit extra special. “It’s a 21st century rewrite that Godber did a few years back,” Neil said, “we have it because Godber himself very kindly gave us the script. It’s got a few extra surprises in it so it means no matter how many times you’ve seen the show, it’ll feel as fresh as ever.”

Both shows are touring West Yorkshire over March, April, May and June. Shakers is at the Robert Craven Memorial Hall, Bramhope, on Saturday, April 21 (0113 284 3361) and Bouncers is at the same venue on Saturday, May 12.

Bouncers is at Ilkley Playhouse on Saturday, May 19 (01943 609 539) www.ilkleyplayhouse.co.uk
