A HOUSING sales officer with Incommunities is getting ready to retire for a ‘second time’ after nearly 45 years working in the sector.

Hilary Dove, from Menston, started work as a secretary with Bradford Council’s housing department in 1973 – initially for just one week.

Little did she know that it would be the start of a long career handling many thousands of Right to Buy applications from tenants wanting to buy their home.

In 2001 she decided to retire but just a few days after saying her farewells she was back at her desk helping colleagues through a staff shortage.

Two years later she moved with the newly formed Bradford Community Housing Trust Group following the stock transfer of thousands of Council homes. The company would become Incommunities in 2008.

Now Hilary, who is the organisation’s longest serving officer, is looking forward to finally stepping down this month and spending more time with her husband, Tim and following her passion for playing tennis.

She is secretary of the Grove Hill Otley Tennis Club and, like her housing career, it’s a role she has carried out twice.

Hilary said: “It will feel strange leaving work for the last time. I’ve really enjoyed working with such a great team at Incommunities, but I won’t miss the challenge of keeping up with the latest technology.

“It’s been wonderful knowing that over the years I’ve been part of the journey for people moving into their new home and taking a step onto the property ladder.”

Geraldine Howley, Incommunities’ Group Chief Executive said: “Hilary can take great pride in knowing she has helped many thousands of people make the biggest move in their lives.

“She will be greatly missed and everyone at Incommunities wishes Hilary a very happy retirement.”
