DAREDEVIL volunteers from Wharfedale and Aireborough are being sought for a fundraising challenge.

The British Red Cross is looking for local residents who would be willing to abseil down one of the tallest buildings in the north of England.

The MSV building, in Leeds city centre, stands at 269ft - 82 metres - high and offers panoramic views from the top.

The charity is holding the abseil on Sunday, May 20 and needs intrepid volunteers to sign up for it and raise sponsorship money.

Senior Community Fundraiser for the British Red Cross in Yorkshire, Helen Whale, said: "The Leeds Abseil is such a fantastic event to be a part of.

"The atmosphere, as people build up the courage to take the plunge, is electric and utterly contagious.

"It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to see this fantastic city from an alternative perspective.

"My advice would be to just go for it - it’s a decision you won’t regret.

"On top of all that, the money you raise will make a real difference to people whose lives have been devastated by things like hospitalisation, house fires, flooding, natural disasters, conflict and more."

Prizes will also be given across a number of categories including best costume, best fundraiser and university with the most sign-ups.

The event is open to anyone aged 16 and over and no abseiling experience is necessary as expert training will be given on the day.

Registration is now open and costs £10, with the Red Cross ready to provide step-by-step support to help participants hit their fundraising targets.
