RHYS Morgan will have to be careful about what he asks from his Ilkley team after last Saturday’s 21-12 defeat at Kirkby Lonsdale.

He stressed the need for them to be consistent before the North Premier League match and had to admit that the performance he witnessed was devoid of that vital ingredient.

“The only thing consistent about our display were the errors we made,” said Morgan.

“It was an afternoon when everybody missed tackles, everybody dropped passes and as a team we did not stick to our game plan.

“We probably made more line breaks than we have done in any other match, but we kept dropping the ball or kicking it away.”

The final straw for Morgan was the needless concession of a late penalty which deprived them of a losing bonus point. “With 25 minutes to go we only trailed by three points and the game was there for us to win, but we couldn’t seize the chance.

“We kept making silly mistakes and never got going. Probably the best thing to do about such a bad performance is forget all about it.”

Morgan is expecting a reaction from his players when they tackle lowly Billingham at Stacks Field on Saturday.

But he also has a warning for them: “Don’t take things for granted.”

Morgan pointed out: “We came unstuck at Sandal and Pocklington when we thought it was going to be easy.

“Billingham will not be an easy game. We only won by one point up there and they will want revenge.

“They are a big side and have their own style of playing which isn’t easy to combat.

“We have to be prepared. It is something we will be stressing to the players.”

Ilkley will be boosted by the return of hooker Dan Lawrence, while JH Johnson and Tom Milner have both passed fitness tests after suffering knocks at Kirkby Lonsdale.

“I was concerned that Johnson and Milner would be ruled out, but they came through training well on Tuesday and are available for selection.
