A MAN suffered "serious" injuries when a car crashed into a tree in Ilkley.
The man, thought to be in his 30s, had to be cut free from the wreckage of his Vauxhall Astra after the vehicle lost control and crashed into a tree on Denton Road, which runs alongside the River Wharfe.
Fire crews from Keighley and Bingley, and a specialist technical rescue vehicle from Cleckheaton, were called to the scene.
They battled for about an hour to rescue the trapped man from the badly damaged vehicle.
The man suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. He was the only occupant of the car.
The crash happened at about 6.40pm yesterday.
