THE newly formed Sports & Social Committee at online training provider Virtual College, based in Ilkley, is currently organising a variety of events to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The first fundraiser has been the production of a beautifully illustrated book, full of delicious recipes which have all been contributed by many members of the staff. The book is entitled ‘Virtual College Cooks’ and has proved to be a resounding success as every copy has been sold.
The cook book was made ready in time for this year’s ‘Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ which took place on Friday, September 29. On the day of the coffee morning a team from the Ilkley Fundraising Committee for Macmillan Cancer Support was invited to make and serve tea and coffee to the staff of Virtual College from both of their Ilkley sites. Approximately 130 coffees were served and the Virtual College staff also organised a homemade cake stall which did a roaring trade. It was a very happy coffee morning and the total amount raised by Virtual College for the recipe book and cake sales was over £900 which is a great achievement.
Current figures show that one in two people will face cancer at some time in their life and Macmillan is always there to ensure that nobody faces cancer alone. As well as supporting the patient, Macmillan is able to provide help and support for families and friends of cancer patients in countless ways through difficult times.
The Ilkley Fundraising Committee for Macmillan Cancer Support would like to thank Virtual College staff for their generosity in organising this event in aid of such a worthwhile charity.
