MUSEUMS, churches and historic sites around Aireborough and Wharfedale will open their doors to visitors next month.

This year's Heritage Open Days event runs from Thursday, September 7 to Sunday, September 10 and will feature thousands of activities across the country.

Locally, they will include tours of Bramhope's Puritan Chapel, a presentation about clocks at Ilkley's Manor House and a talk on North Horsforth at Horsforth Museum.

There will also be an Aireborough Exhibition hosted at Yeadon Town Hall and a look at the historic origins of Otley's All Saints Church and St Oswald's Church, in Guiseley.

Volunteer Heritage Open Days Coordinator for Leeds Civic Trust, Lynda Kitching, said: "There’ll be four days of stunning architecture, fascinating histories and people’s stories, activities for young and old.

"Between Leeds and Ilkley, there’ll be 120 or so free events to choose from - so much to see, so little time!

"Truly, there’s something for everyone.

"You could take a guided walk to learn about ancient Guiseley, one of Yeadon’s Conservation Areas, or the Higher Villas of West Ilkley.

"The walk around the High Royds estate in Menston has proved so popular it is already fully booked, but High Royds’ restored chapel, with its peaceful Memorial Garden, will be open and its archive on display."

She added: "Visitors will also be able to hear people’s stories at St Margaret’s Church, Horsforth, Rawdon’s Quaker Meeting House, and at Bramhope’s Puritan Chapel, a rare survivor of England’s Commonwealth period.

"And there’ll be guided tours in Otley at the Courthouse and at Westbourne House, where you can learn all about Freemasonry, and at Bramhope’s Scout Campsite, where scouting past and present will be explained."
