PRINCE Henry's is celebrating successful A level results, with an overall pass rate of 99 per cent.

The percentage of A* - C grades has increased to 79 per cent - with 28 per cent of all grades being A or A*.

Headteacher Janet Sheriff said in a statement: "This high attainment is evident in the more academic subjects such as the Sciences, Maths and English, as well as in vocational subjects such as Applied Business, BTec Music, BTec PE and IT, where there was a high proportion of double distinction* grades (equivalent of two A* grades).

"These great results are especially pleasing considering that the challenge of A levels has increased once more with the introduction of new style A levels in a range of subjects. Teachers at Prince Henry’s have worked particularly hard this year to prepare students for this additional challenge and they are rightly proud of how well our students have performed.

"There are some amazing individual successes across the full range of academic achievement: At the top end an exceptional number of students gained straight A or A* grades. Euan Walkley and Sam Graham both achieved an A* grade in all three of their A level subjects (a mixture of Chemistry, Maths, Physics and Further Maths). Euan will study Chemistry at Oxford University and Sam will study engineering at Durham University. Abe Gilbody achieved two A* grades and an A grade (Biology, Maths and Chemistry) and will go on to study medicine at Liverpool University. Udayan Banger, Rebecca Gibbs, Becca Gray and Tom Settle all achieved A*, A, A in their three main subjects. Meg Liddicott, who secured three A grades in Biology, Chemistry and English Literature, will study dentistry at Newcastle University and Suleiman Spencer secured the grades to study medicine at Leeds University. Tom Farley-Hills achieved a Double Distinction* (equivalent of two A*grades) in Music, a grade A in English Literature and a Distinction in IT.

"Sam Marsh achieved a Double Distinction* in IT and an A grade in Economics. Ben Pope and Lachlan Ogg both achieved a Double Distinction* in IT and a grade A in Applied Business. As a result of the hard work of teachers and students it is likely that an even higher proportion of Prince Henry’s students will have been accepted by their choice of university."

She added: "We are really proud of how our sixth form students have performed this year, they have risen to the increased challenge and achieved some excellent results at A level.”

“The continued improvement in standards at Prince Henry’s is due to our team of talented and dedicated staff and the hard work and commitment of our amazing students. Well done to all!”
