VISITORS to Ilkley's Real Food Market in South Hawksworth Street on Sunday picked up some tasty treats.

The event comes ahead of this weekend's Summer Festival Continental Market when the town will be a buzz along The Grove with an assortment of market stalls on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 11, 12 and 13, open 8am to 5pm on each day. There will be a whole host of food and gifts from around the world, with music on the bandstand each day providing the perfect soundtrack.

There will be two headliner bands on Friday at 5pm and Saturday at 6pm. Friday's band is 12 Bars from Mars, sponsored by Wickedlady and Saturday's is Five Dollar Shoes, sponsored by the Wheatley Arms, who are sure to get the market dancing.

Friday afternoon is being billed as Ilkley's Got Talent, when anyone, including buskers, who want to display their talent to an audience is invited to come along. In the mornings there will be face painting for children.

On Saturday at 2pm the Two Rivers Swing Band will perform, followed at around 4pm by The Faded Cells U3A Ukelele. On Sunday at 2pm blues and rock n roll covers band Funk Soul City will perform lively soul funk.

As part of the Summer Festival, Ilkley Jazz Festival, now in its fourth year, starts Wednesday, August 16 and is bigger and better with more acts and headlining international jazz stars from London as well as the very best of Northern and Yorkshire jazz talent.

Headlining on Friday 18 at the Winter Gardens, Ilkley with his latest album ‘Theory of Joy’ is International Jazz vocalist Ian Shaw, compared with Kurt Elling and Mark Murphy and recently nominated in the prestigious Downbeat Magazine jazz poll as best vocalist.

On Saturday 19 at The Winter Gardens there are five sensational jazz acts that give the full breadth of the contemporary jazz genre. The day starts at 1pm with northern based Jamil Sheriff’s piano trio, followed by British Jazz Award winning Jamie Brownfields trumpet led quartet, then Mobo nominated James Mainwaring leads a new sax lead quartet, expect a master-class in jazz singing as Beverley Beirne sings Carmichael at 6.30pm followed by leading London pianist John Crawford who headlines Saturday evening at 8pm with his Latin influenced jazz music from his latest Album Times of Tide.

Another eight events around Ilkley at venues including Monkmans with celebrated Northern singer Zoe Gilby on Weds 16th and Richard Ormrod on Friday 18, Martinez, Dave Smith Blues, Wednesday 16, Quinta Restaurant have exceptional Yorkshire singer Julie Edwards on Thursday 17, The Black Hat, Hot Club Du Nord, Sunday 20 and Friends of Ham, young dynamic band Treppenwitz, Thursday 17.

Keep a lookout too for lively New Orleans style brass band Backchat Brass who will performing a pop up gig at the station and around Ilkley!

Budding jazzers, look out for the free educational events run by leading jazz pro’s, the long running workshop and the masterclass (by John Crawford) and the popular and lively Late Night Jazz Jam is back at The Black Hat, giving new jazz blood a chance play.
