ILKLEY-based Virtual College has sponsored one of its employees Tom Wasik on a gruelling challenge to climb the highest mountains of England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours to raise funds for St Gemma’s Hospice and Alzheimer’s Research UK.
On Saturday, May 13, Tom climbed UK's largest mountain, Ben Nevis of Scotland, standing at 1,345 metres, followed by England’s largest mountain, Scafell Pike and finally Snowdon, the largest mountain in Wales - all in under twenty four hours.
The amazing feat involved Tom covering 32 miles, taking 75,000 steps and burning 13,000 calories. Beating the 24 hour target, Tom completed the exhausting challenge in 22 hours and 25 minutes.
Tom works as a technical projects manager at online learning company, Virtual College, who were pleased to contribute £150 to Tom’s fundraising efforts which currently stand at over £3,000.
Tom said: “This was a truly punishing test of our thigh muscles, glutes, stamina and perseverance.
“A big thank you to Virtual College and all of my other sponsors. Any additional contributions would be most welcome via the fundraising page: http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/pintmenofleeds.”
