THE LEEDS Male Voice Choir is to perform a summer concert in Yeadon to raise money for St Gemma's Hospice.

The one hundred year old choir will perform Music for Midsummer, a extravaganza of seasonal favourites alongside music from a recent overseas tour on Saturday, June 17 at St John’s Church.

The choir, which celebrated its centenary in Leeds Town Hall in 2016, has been working this year on new material for audiences at home and abroad. It recently travelled to Belgium to perform in a series of concerts in churches and cathedrals, including at the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres - in an act of remembrance which has taken place every day since 1928.

Chairman Robert Butler said: "2017 is already proving a great year for Leeds Male Voice Choir and we’ve been delighted to take the show on the road and to perform to enthusiastic audiences in packed cathedrals across Belgium and we’re looking forward to performing again in Yeadon and raising as much money as possible to support the excellent work of St Gemma’s.”

Music for Midsummer will raise funds for St Gemma’s Hospice, a Leeds-based charity providing expert care and support for local people with life-threatening illnesses.

Tim Knight, the creative force behind Leeds Male Voice Choir says “In 2017, I’ve been keen to test the men and expand the variety of music we perform, we diverged from the traditional male voice choir repertoire some years ago and strive to present the best music from around the world - drawing on influences from Europe, North America, the Baltic and Scandinavia and mixing with the very best music from home.”

The concert will feature a range of music including classical, popular music and songs from the shows.

Rob said: "We’re looking forward to celebrating our return to Leeds with a great summer concert and raising as much money as possible for St Gemma’s Hospice. It’s going to be a fun filled evening for the whole family in Yeadon."

Music for Midsummer starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are available at www.leedsmalevoicechoir.co.uk or on 0113 243 1605. Visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Leeds-Male-Voice-Choir to donate to the choir's fundraising for the hospicce.
