A FUNDRAISING 'festival in an afternoon' will be held in Otley this weekend.

The Big Picture, a covers band that have been playing the local pub circuit since 1996, will be the headline attraction at the event at Otley Rugby Club on Sunday, May 28.

The group is well known for its renditions of both current hits and classic songs by the likes of Arctic Monkeys, The Ramones, U2, The Killers, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon and The Clash.

Its performance at the noon to 5pm festival, in aid of Parkinson's UK, will be its final one - and will see the band supported by other entertainment including a DJ, magic display, tombola, raffle and Punch and Judy shows.

Street food will also be available from The Real Junk Food Project, which reduces food wastage, and Caru Coffi which will be serving waffles and coffee.

The new Otley Mayor Councillor Nigel Francis, meanwhile, will be attending to show his support.

The day has been organised by Otley resident Jane Monk as a way of thanking Parkinson’s UK for the support the charity is providing to her father.

Among the raffle prizes will be a dinner for two donated by The Yorke Arms, at Ramsgill-in-Nidderdale; a £100 voucher from Stephen H Smith Garden Centre, in Otley; and a boat trip for four on the River Wharfe at Otley, donated by Chris Thornton of Aura Jewellery.

Festival tickets cost £5 - children under 16 free - and are available from Otley Rugby Club or on the gate.
