A WELL-known Ilkley garden will open to the public for two days - Wednesday, May 31 and Sunday, June 4 - as part of The National Garden Scheme.

Visitors will be able to enjoy the garden of Lyn and Phil Short, at 5 Hill Top, off Westwood Drive, LS29 9RS, with its natural stream with bridges, Victorian pathways, large rockery and summerhouse, along with a wide variety of flowers, shrubs, ferns and trees, together with excellent views over Ilkley and Wharfedale.

Opening hours will be 11am to 4.30pm on each of the two days, with admission £3.50 per adult, children under 11 free, but no dogs. Visitors are asked to park considerately on Westwood Drive and Queens Road. Tea, coffee, soft drinks and home-made cakes will be available at a small charge, with seating on the patio and lawn, and there will also be a plant stall.

Proceeds will go to the NGS charities of Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK and others, while the local Breast Cancer Research Action Group will also benefit. 2017 is the 90th year of NGS opening private gardens for charity and last year donated £2.7 million to a wide range of charities.
