A MUSICIAN who has incurable cancer is planning to perform in a gig this week to raise money for charity.

Twenty-one year old John Derrig from Yeadon, was diagnosed with terminal cancer in February. Now he and his family are focussing their energy on a fund raising event for the Teenage Cancer Trust. John, has spent a considerable amount of time in the Teenage Cancer Trust ward in the Bexley Wing at St. James’ Hospital, in Leeds.

John, who studied at Leeds College of Music, is an amateur musician in several bands. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy but, health permitting, he will be drumming and playing guitar at the fund-raising event.

The gig will take place at Yeadon Town Hall at 7pm on Friday, May 26. Tickets cost £10 and can be bought on the door or from www.eventbrite.com/e/teenage-kicks-cancer-tickets-33145863169.

The evening kicks off at 7pm with three bands - the Leeds based pop punk band, Call me when you’re Famous; The Fools on the Hill – playing songs from the Beatles’ Studio Years; and The Counterfeits, playing songs from Blink 182, Motley Crue, Foo Fighters, Sum 41, and The Undertones.
