SKIPTON Girls High School is celebrating after being named top secondary school in the north for science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

The school, the first all girls school to gain specialist engineering status, and now an engineering academy, received the Project Enthuse celebration award for top STEM school in the north at an awards ceremony at Manchester Town Hall.

The ENTHUSE Celebration Awards recognise the impact of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) across all STEM subjects and across the entire STEM learning network.

And each year, the awards are presented to celebrate the impact that teachers, technicians and support staff have on students, colleagues, schools, colleges and peers.

Judges found that the high school was both innovative and outward facing, with a strong and active commitment to supporting other schools across the region.

Through both its teacher training programme and CPD opportunities offered through the Science Learning Partnership, as well as other initiatives, the school has a proven track record

of developing the skills, knowledge and enthusiasm of teaching staff with the aim of it leading to an increase in the life chances of our young people.

The high school is due to attend the national awards ceremony in London at the House of Lords in July.
