YOUNG Guiseley actor Max Vento is set to return to our screens this autumn with the return of BBC series The A Word.

The youngster won critical acclaim with his portrayal of the drama's central figure Joe who is diagnosed with autism.

Filming for the second series has been taking place in the Lake District and at Manchester's Space Project, picking up the story two years on.

Now aged seven, Joe has begun to look at the world and finds he doesn’t fit in.

Writer Peter Bowker said: "Autistic is a word Joe has heard but can’t yet understand. Different is what he feels, and fears might be something bad. It's up to the whole family to help Joe make sense of who he is and his place in the world. But to do that, they must first be honest about themselves."

Max was only five, and attending drama classes at the West Yorkshire School of Performing Arts, when he filmed the first series in 2015. In what was his first TV role, he joined a stellar cast including Christopher Eccleston, Lee Ingleby and Morven Christie who, along with critics and viewers, praised his natural performance.

Max, a pupil at St Joseph’s primary school in Otley, had been learning drama, singing and dance at WYSPA since he was a toddler.
