THE Ilkley Big Lunch and Great Get Together is just over a month away.
On Sunday, June 18 from noon until 3pm The Grove will be turned into one big street party and picnic to celebrate the life of MP Jo Cox on the anniversary of her death.
On Saturday, May 6 a group of residents came together to make bunting for the event. From 2pm until 5pm Christchurch Hall on The Grove was turned into a hive of sewing activity.
A spokesman said: “ We needed lots of bunting to decorate the Grove and so asked the local community to help. The response was fantastic; in little more than three hours, 20 volunteers had sewn together 2,000 triangles to make 150 metres of fabulous colourful bunting. There was a slick production line of cutting out fabric, ironing and then sewing on tape. The committee would like to thank everyone who helped out on the day, along with all those who donated fabric and sewing machines. We are really looking forward to hanging the bunting and making the Grove look fabulous on 18th June.”
