MEMBERS of Wharfedale Scout District turned out in force under sunny skies for the annual St George's Day parade in Otley on Sunday.

Around 320 young people from the ten scout groups which make up the Wharfedale district - Otley, Menston, Ben Rhydding, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Ilkley and Addingham - paraded their flags along Kirkgate and Manor Square, accompanied by their leaders.

The parade was led by drummers from the Ilkley Air Cadets. There was a salute outside Kirkgate Arcade taken by Otley Town Mayor, Cllr Ian Jackson, and the new District Commissioner of Wharfedale, Alan Pratt. This was followed by a short service at Otley Bridge URC Church, which was full to capacity, where the colours were presented.

The service was also attended by the Otley Mayor, members of Otley Town Council, representatives from the District, West Yorkshire County and from Girl Guiding.

The congregation learned about the work of the charity Feed the Minds, and a collection was taken for the good cause.

Everyone then renewed their promises in an act of rededication, led by the Assistant District Commissioners for Beavers and Cubs and the District Commissioner.

Alan Pratt, District Commissioner asked all Scouts to thank and cheer their Leaders for their tremendous work in running activities for all the nearly 1000 young people involved in Scouting in Wharfedale District.
