A PUBLIC meeting to discuss future healthcare in the Settle area due to take place tomorrow (Tuesday) has been cancelled until after the June general election.

The meeting was due to take place at 3pm at Victoria Hall and was expected to outline proposals for a new health and well being hub possibly on the site of the former Settle Middle School in Giggleswick.

Plans follow the recent closure of the Castleberg Hospital in Giggleswick following safety concerns by the health trust.

A spokesman for the Airedale NHS Foundation Trust said it would be unable to take part in the meeting because of rules surrounding general elections.

"Unfortunately due to purdah rules governing public bodies in the run up to an election we are not permitted to take part in public meetings. As a result of the announcement of the general election, the NHS has been asked to observe purdah from April 22.

"The trust cannot comment on any proposed future health provision in Settle. We will take part as a stakeholder in any future public consultation."

The spokesman added: "The views of our communities are important to us, and we encourage anyone who wishes to be kept informed about future developments to register with our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01535 294019 or email, pals.office@anhst.nhs.uk , or to check our website at airedale-trust.nhs.uk."
