FELL rescue volunteers were called out to help a caver who had got stuck in a pot hole near Penyghent on Saturday night.

The cave remained stuck for several hours before being helped, unhurt, to the surface by 5am on Sunday.

The Grassington based Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association (UWFRA) received a call at 9.45pm about a party of four cavers who were overdue in Swan Dike Pot.

A spokesman for the UWFRA said the rescue was successfully carried out with the help of the Cave Rescue Organisation. Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team had also been on alert in case its help was also needed.

Te spokesman said : "Two of the party had made their way out of the cave and reported that one member was stuck behind a tight section of passage. The team was assisted by CRO and after several hours the casualty was assisted through the constriction and was on the surface by 5am on Sunday morning. Safe and well. The team then de-rigged the cave and returned to base. We would like to thank CRO for their assistance and Swaledale MRT for being on standby."
