THE VANDER Wheel of Death has been announced as the main act for this year's Ilkley Carnival.

The 'At the Movies' themed event will bring a touch of Hollywood to the carnival showground on May 1. While the rest of the line-up is yet to be announced, the Vander Wheel of Death is set to be a high-action, adrenaline fuelled, James Bond inspired display.

Wayne Vander, stuntman and owner of the attraction, said the headline act would see the team work the wheel up to a speed which allows them to walk on the outside completely blindfolded at heights of 35ft.

"We’ve performed at Glastonbury, in Dubai and even at the Bahrain F1 GP and now we’re headlining Ilkley Carnival to transport the crowds to the silver screen with our thrill-seeking stunts.

"We were the very first team of performers to walk the outside of a Quad Wheel of Death and have perfected our jaw-dropping display that relies on body strength, momentum and nerves of steel. We promise the Ilkley crowds a breath-taking display that they’ll be talking about for years to come."

The 2017 event will once again welcome the return of the parade after a hugely successful 2016 which saw more than 1,000 school children, charities and organisations take part. The At the Movies theme is capturing the imaginations of schools and local groups with Willy Wonka and Harry Potter expected to join the town centre procession.

Ilkley Carnival committee chairman, Andrew Stacey, said: "The Vander Brothers Wheel Of Death is unlike any act we have booked before. Acts like this will help us bring the crowds to the carnival showground after the parade to help us raise vital funds for this year’s primary beneficiaries, Junior Ilkley Harriers."

"A huge thank you must also go to our local sponsors, with their help and support we can make this year’s carnival the most spectacular even to funds to make the carnival such a spectacular event."
