A KEIGHLEY social enterprise which was bidding to win lottery funding through a public vote has thanked people for their support.

Get Out More was among five schemes in the region – and 95 across the UK – competing for National Lottery grants of up to £50,000 in the ITV People's Projects initiative.

The Sunderland Street-based project, which was seeking funding to expand its Outdoor Adventure Club after a successful year-long pilot in Keighley East ward, wasn't among the regional winners.

But it will be awarded a smaller grant as a runner-up.

Managing director, Annie Berrington, said: "The People's Projects lets the public decide how National Lottery funding is spent to make a difference in local communities.

"I would like to say a big thank-you to everyone who voted for us and helped support our campaign.

"The Get Out More team worked hard to get the message out there over the campaign fortnight and we are very grateful to the schools, groups and businesses which backed us and shared our call for votes.

"We were heartened by the support we received from Keighley people as we promoted the public vote at events and around town."

She added: "The Outdoor Adventure Club was a great initiative to get children and young people from different communities active outdoors, making use of and improving our parks and woodlands and supporting local people to develop skills.

"Although we can't now run this across Keighley, we will still be staging a range of outdoor activities in Keighley East thanks to our contract with Keighley Big Local.

"We have some exciting programmes coming up and are keen to hear from people in the Big Local area who would like to get involved."

The Outdoor Adventure Club pilot is culminating with an Easter holiday forest school at Park Wood, on Tuesday and Wednesday (Apr 18/19), including games, den building, crafts and a campfire.

Get Out More runs a series of outdoor programmes, including forest schools, for people of all ages across parts of West and North Yorkshire.

It uses woodlands, parks and other natural spaces.
