MORE than £27,000 has been raised for good causes through a Keighley building society since the launch of a charity initiative.

Yorkshire Building Society revealed the figure for its Low Street branch after announcing that the overall total distributed by its Charitable Foundation had broken through the £7m mark.

Since the foundation was set-up in 1999, over 80 organisations have received donations via the Keighley outlet.

Money is raised by society members donating pennies from the interest on their accounts.

Recent beneficiaries have included the Parkinson's UK Keighley support group, which was given £500 to help fund day trips.

Jonathan Thewlis, manager at the Yorkshire Building Society's Keighley branch, said: "We're delighted to be able to celebrate the Charitable Foundation reaching its £7 million donation milestone.

"We would not be able to do this without the support of our members.

"As a mutual organisation, we're committed to making a positive and lasting impact on the communities we serve.

"It's remarkable what a big difference the Charitable Foundation has made, not only here in Keighley but in communities all around the UK."
