MAURICE Grumbleweed helped a Manorlands support group smash its £100,000 fundraising target.

The Wharfedale Support Group held its tenth anniversary bash at Grassington Town Hall and with a varied entertainment, including the legendary funnyman Maurice Grumbleweed, raised more than £5,000, taking the group well over its £100,000 target.

June Robinson, a founder member of the group, said it had been a fantastic night, with all tickets sold out in advance.

"It was wonderful, we had people turning up well before we started and there was a queue at the bar before it opened.

"Maurice Grumbleweed was so funny, people were still laughing after he finished."

The event also included the band, The Maestros - Bootleg Sixties, and they proved such a hit, the group has already been booked for next year's event.

"We were all absolutely delighted with how it went, people were dancing in the aisles and we had people from all over," added June.

The group's next fundraiser was a fashion show at Skipton Golf Club on Thursday last week by Skipton shop, The Rowan Tree, which was also sold out.
